The Weight Loss Surgery Center at University of Minnesota Medical Center, Fairview provides patient-centered care to people interested in achieving significant, long-term weight loss. Who qualifies for surgery?
We follow the National Institute of Health guidelines for obesity surgery. To qualify, you must have a body mass index (BMI) over 40, or a BMI over 35 with associated medical conditions, such as diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, urinary incontinence, depression or sleep apnea.
